In today’s digital world, where Inclusivity is becoming a fundamental aspect of web development, ensuring accessibility is not just ethical but also a legal necessity. To this end, We conducted a detailed experiment to test the effectiveness of AI-driven web accessibility solutions. Our objective was to test AccessiBe, UserWay, and Equally AI—three leading platforms in the AI accessibility market—against a complex set of web accessibility challenges.
1Methodology We Used
Methodology We Used
We created a website with complex accessibility issues and tested three popular AI accessibility widgets, each costing about $50/month, for one week. Our finalists were AccessiBe, known for its immediate efficacy; UserWay, which also offers a free widget version; and Equally AI, a company recognized for its technological roots and affiliation with NVIDIA’s startup program. We excluded other solutions like Equalweb and AudioEye to focus on distinctly AI-focused companies.
To measure performance, we installed each widget, subscribed, and performed hourly scans to see real-time improvements. We evaluated AI efficiency, compliance speed, dashboard usability, alt text quality, unresolved issues, pricing fairness, user feedback, and adaptability.
2Evaluation Metrics for Accessibility Solutions

3Findings
Findings
AccessiBe
- AI Efficiency: High. AccessiBe demonstrated rapid improvements, addressing straightforward issues almost immediately.
- Compliance Speed: The fastest among the competitors.
- Dashboard: Excellent, with an easy-to-navigate interface.
- Image Alts Quality: Excellent; detailed and informative alt texts.
- Unresolved Issues: Some complex issues were cleverly hidden from scans rather than fixed.
- User Feedback: Users found AccessiBe’s interface to be very easy to navigate and clear in its functionalities.
- Pricing: Fair and transparent.
- Adaptability: Excellent.
UserWay
- AI Efficiency: Good. Noticeable improvements, though some appeared manually implemented.
- Dashboard: Excellent, well-organized, and user-friendly.
- Compliance Speed: Good, though not as quick as AccessiBe.
- Image Alts Quality: Very good; alt texts are editable, providing user control.
- Unresolved Issues: Detailed reports on source code issues were provided.
- User Feedback: The need to navigate through menus to find more options was seen as a hindrance, making it less favored among testers.
- Pricing: Fair, but the lawsuit pledge may not be as advantageous as it appears. Given that reaching a court decision could be costly, it’s unlikely anyone would pursue a $10K case when legal fees could be 10 to 20 times higher for a full trial.
- Adaptability: Excellent.
Equally AI
- AI Efficiency: Excellent. The widget began resolving issues only once we paid, but clearly driven by artificial intelligence.
- Compliance Speed: Quick and efficient.
- Dashboard: Basic, focusing on essential functionalities.
- Image Alts Quality: Less detailed but highly accurate.
- Unresolved Issues: Best at prioritizing critical issues with clear instructions for manual fixes.
- User Feedback: Praised for its simplicity and minimalistic approach.
- Pricing: The most affordable at $37/month, with no misleading claims.
- Adaptability: Excellent.
Conclusion
In terms of raw AI power, AccessiBe led the pack. However, the practical, less flashy approach of Equally AI, combined with their focused affordable pricing and effective problem-solving strategies for critical issues that can only be addressed in the source code, ultimately set them apart. While UserWay presents a solid choice with commendable technology, Equally AI appears as the leader in this AI-driven accessibility challenge.
